Graphitization is the heat treatment of graphite products. Through high temperature, the originally disorganized carbon atoms are arranged neatly. The graphitization process is a process in which the carbon material changes from the two-dimensional structure of the carbon network to the three-dimensional ordered structure through the growth of"microcrystals"under the action of high temperature. Graphitization process is an important process in the production of carbon graphite materials, and graphitization degree is an important index of materials processed.
The graphitization temperature can be roughly divided into two stages, the first stage is between 1000-1800ºC, the second stage is between 1800-3000ºC, above 2000ºC is the key stage for the change of the microcrystalline structure of carbon atoms, different graphite materials have different requirements for graphitization temperature.
Graphitization can be divided into direct method and indirect method according to the heating method, and intermittent and continuous method according to the operation mode. To graphitize the material, it is necessary to use the processing equipment - graphitization furnace.
Graphitization equipment is divided into two categories according to different ways: that is, it is divided into direct heating furnace and indirect heating furnace according to the heating method. The material to be heated in the direct heating furnace is directly used as the heating body. Indirect heating furnace is the material only heating body, heat from the material outside the heating body.
According to the operation design, it can be divided into five main types: Acheson graphitization furnace, internal series graphitization furnace, vacuum graphitization furnace, continuous graphitization furnace and box type graphitization furnace.
Graphitization processing cost is mainly affected by crucible, resistance material and other direct materials, labor costs, depreciation and water, electricity, among which electricity accounts for the highest proportion, about 60% of the graphitization cost. Usually, 1 ton of graphitization capacity needs to consume 12-14,000 KWH of electricity, graphitization is a high energy consumption process.
Graphitization production cycle and construction cycle are long, the general production cycle needs about a month, the construction cycle needs at least half a year to 1 year, so the graphitization capacity release cycle is long.
Due to the low unit electricity price, Inner Mongolia is an important concentration of graphitization capacity in China, accounting for about 46% of the country's total capacity. The remaining capacity is distributed in Sichuan, Shanxi, Yunnan and other regions. Due to the local government's energy consumption control policies, environmental assessment pressure, frequent power rationing and rising electricity costs and other reasons, the release and expansion of graphitization capacity are not as expected, and the operating rate of enterprises is also limited to a certain extent, leading to a larger supply gap and a new high price.
Graphitization is a key process in the production of graphite electrode and artificial graphite anode materials, and the graphitization processing cost of electrode is lower than that of negative electrode. After constant price adjustment, the current large DC graphitization processing cost is 5200 yuan/ton, and the average price of negative graphitization processing cost is 22,000 to 26,000 yuan/ton, and there is still room for subsequent price increase.

How should the foundry choose the right carburizer?
General gray casting carburizer requirements of sulfur content will be low, normal below 0.5 sulfur can be used, the requirements are not so strict, generally fixed carbon 98.5/98/90/95/92 can be used, as long as the final absorption rate can be reached. Ductile iron requirements are more strict, not only require the content of fixed carbon, but also require low sulfur and low nitrogen, otherwise the castings produced are easy to brittle, crack, very affect the final effect, nitrogen element must be low nitrogen, the best 600ppm or 300ppm, the lower the nitrogen production of castings more smooth, no pores, High nitrogen will lead to uneven castings, some even have pores and cracks.
At present, the metallurgical industry most of the use of high carbon content, low ash, low sulfur graphite, petroleum coke as carburizing agent, due to the transport, crushing, screening, dust removal and other links to produce about 20% of the carbonaceous powder, because these powder particle size can not be directly taken back to use, otherwise, too much powder into the furnace will cause the furnace layer of poor permeability, melt expansion, blast furnace phenomenon.
